Reducing Crime

County Attorney Polk is especially proud of Yavapai Reentry (YRP), a home-grown project by MATFORCE, which Polk chairs.  Created in 2011, YRP matches inmates leaving prison to community coaches to help them successfully resume productive lives. Funded on a shoestring, YRP has become a statewide model for how rural communities can reduce re-offenses by partnering with volunteers to mentor former inmates. Preliminary data shows that individuals who complete YRP are six times less likely to commit another crime. YRP is now being offered to four additional counties and MATFORCE staff have agreed to train and provide materials.
